Abstract

Ferdowsi's Shahnameh is one of the literary-narrative works of the Persian language that has established itself as a lasting work throughout the historical periods. This narrative literary work has used elements to convey its concepts and tries to interact with the reader through them. Narrative interaction in Ferdowsi's Shahnameh has its own patterns and characteristics, which are chosen by its creator depending on the subject and the special matter that it represents. This research, with a descriptive - analytical approach, seeks to explain the narrative interaction in Ferdowsi's Shahnameh by relying on the mythological and epic sections. The research results show that Ferdowsi should not be considered as the main and fundamental narrator of Shahnameh. Ferdowsi should be considered as a proxy narrator, who narrates Shahnameh and made it coherent and unifying, relying on the previous narrations. The power of his intervention in expressing and interpreting narrative fragments in the form of narrative failure is clearly evident, and sometimes he clearly expresses his intended narrative discourse to his audiences.
